Zhao is one of the few academicians that is getting a lot of things right about education. In fact, Zhao's work would fully support the kind of changes that this blog advocates, changes originally proposed by educational activists and borne out by the activism of homeschool families for over 30 years now.
We can let families and children make choices and in doing that save money and resources, improve learning at all levels, build social networks which empower communities, allow families to drive the offerings and services within the schools themselves, and move away from the authoritarian and hierarchical model that undermines families and children.
