In case you haven't already heard or seen the photographic periodic table of elements, it is really worth the time.  NOTE: Nick Mann, the chief photographer for the table was homeschooled.  Also excellent: the periodic table of videos  with the wonderful Professor Poliakoff.  I also read  Graphene Will Change the Way We Live up on Dr. Kaku's Universe blog over at Big Think.
